100 Leaves 100 Days Challenge
In 2020, I challenged myself to create one piece of art on a teabag everyday for 30 days.
It was a real challenge for me. I hadn’t made any kind of art-making commitment like that before.
I was looking for a way to develop my art practice and a good art-making habit. I’m happy to say I was able to complete my challenge and got more than I was hoping for.
Here are the benefits that I got from “30 Teabags in 30 Days”:
I made art that sold.
I was chosen as a featured artist in a local gallery based on this body of work.
I learned new techniques using teabags that I developed into in-person workshops.
Images about the teabags were the most clicked on my Pinterest profile which helped my grow my audience.
I made progress in developing my artist voice by having to think beyond the obvious each day.
I developed a stronger daily art-making habit.
WHY LEAVES FOR A CHALLENGE?
I’ve been working with leaves for more than a year. Early last year, I started eco-printing using leaves and flowers.
I’ve been adding some embellishing to the eco-prints like watercolor and ink.
Winter Honeysuckle
It seems to me that there is an unlimited number of ideas to make art from a leaf. I’m challenging myself to create something new just about everyday using this little bit of nature.
The challenge is to make 100 leaf-based pieces of art in 100 days using many different techniques. Here are some I have in mind:
sketching
eco-printing
monoprinting
block cut printing
screenprinting
image transfer
collage
painting
I’ll probably make a journal to keep all this work together.
