Use Those Family Linens In Your Art Journal
A small stack of some of my family linens that I have been storing in a drawer to use someday.
How do you feel about the vintage linens you’re storing? The ones that once belonged to your grandmother or great-aunt.
Are you keeping them in a drawer or a cedar chest to use someday? Or maybe you're hoping your daughter or daughter-in-law will think they are precious, too?
My advice is to enjoy using them now as part of your fiber/stitching/quilting art.
I used a piece of crochet on this page.
Some more crochet bits at the corner.
The background on this page was a striped table runner that my mom used on her dresser.
The background on this page was an embroidered table runner that belonged to my grandmother.
It might seem somewhat disrespectful to dye them, cut them up and make them into something else than what they meant for, but I'm here to tell you, they are a source of wonderful memories and lovely details that you can add to your art journal.
Personally, I've turned the corner on keeping those linens stored as if they are precious and should be saved for “someday.” I add them to my stitching projects and every time I open my art journal, I think of the special women who “gifted” me those linens.
My mom, my grandmother and my great-aunt would love nothing more than see those pieces used in my art and not kept in a drawer.
How do you feel about using those old linens (napkins, tablecloths, table scarves, doilies, etc) in your fiber art?
I would love to know your thoughts!
Email me and tell me your feelings about using those pieces in your art or anything else that you create.
