5 Reasons I Use a Tea Bag to Make Art

Making art using tea bags is kind of like going on an art mini-vacation. You have your regular work, but you stop to take a break and make art on a tea bag. It’s quick and you feel like you’ve been a way for a while.

I like to use a tea bag for an art-making mini-vacation because:

  1. Tea bags are small.

  2. Tea bags have interesting marks and I can easily add color

  3. Tea bags are free (after I drink the tea that I paid for).

  4. Tea bags are somewhat durable to work with.

  5. Tea bags are disposable. I can easily throw them out if I mess up.

See what I mean?

Tea Bags are small

I like to work small. I like projects that are quick to complete. And I like the size of the tea bag because I can carry it around to different places in my house to work on it.

Tea Bags have interesting marks

The tea marks that happen as I’m brewing are interesting. They give me a good place to start. I add more marks and color. I can add color and marks by rusting and staining the tea bag.

Tea Bags are free after I drink the tea (which I do)

I drink a lot of tea mostly green. I clean and save every tea bag. I have stacks of clean tea bags.

Tea Bags are somewhat durable

Tea bags do tear. But I like that I can manipulate it without a lot of worry. And it’s easy to add additional support by adhering it to a stronger substrate, like interfacing.

Tea Bags are disposable

These little “canvases” are not precious. If I mess one up, I don’t feel bad about putting it in the compost bin. If I tear one while I work on it, out it goes.
