An Old Home Place on a Tea Bag

My family homesteaded in Oklahoma. I’m still here. Never lived in any other state.

Even though I have few memories of visiting the homestead when I was little, I like knowing that my family had the gumption to settle in a place they didn’t know much about to start a new life.

The image on this tea bag isn’t that home place. But it could have been.

I imagine the set up would have been similar; the open prairie, a windmill, an outside pump for water, a clapboard house with a porch, a fence, and a bell to ring for dinner (which in my family’s case would only be my great-grampa).

When I took a photo of this old home place not far from where I live, I thought of my family and knew I needed to capture that memory in my art.

I see this image as testament to courage and hard work.

I make tea bag art. If you would like to know more about my online course “Snippets Tea Bag Art v2.0” click here.
